Aquatic Plant Harvesting System

The Weed Reaper crew brings swift death to the nasty, slimy weeds that choke the shallow parts of your pond or lake in the Pittsburgh, PA area.    Using a unique harvester, the Weed Reaper crew removes unsightly and unpleasant plant overgrowth from the edge of your pond up to five feet deep in any depth of water.  Weed Reaper is ecologically sound, environmentally friendly, and uses no chemicals or biological additives.  Your favorite water body could be clear and sparkling after a short visit from Weed Reaper!

Excessive aquatic plant growth reflects the long-term accumulation of nutrients in a water body (from surface run-off, fertilizers, septic systems, etc.).  There are several older, less friendly, less effective techniques for controlling excessive plant growth which include:

*Chemical application
*Biological (introduction of biotic organisms)
*Dredging
*Water Level Control
*Light Control
*Nutrient Control
*Manual Removal by Hand

We at WEED REAPER offer a very effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative:

Mechanical Harvesting

Aquatic vegetation absorbs nutrients.  In turn, harvesting removes both the vegetation and the nutrients from the water.  This greatly reduces the quantity of remaining nutrients to stimulate future growth.

Harvesting controls rather than eradicate aquatic plants and helps restore the water body to its natural ecological balance.  A healthy controlled plant life is desireable.  There plants become "weeds" only when they are excessive and unwanted.

In addition to removing trouble-causing nutrients, harvesting can help to"

* Improve Water Quality
* Improve Fishing Conditions
* Reduce the Rate or Sedimentation
* Eliminate Algae Blooms
* Bring Immediate and Long-Term Relief to Water Bodies with Troubled Excessive Plant Growth

Clearly the many advantages associated with harvesting make it the preferred course of action, especially when you consider that it is both cost-effective and  environmentally safe.

WEED REAPER uses exclusively the Aquamarine H5-200 Aquatic Plant Harvester System:

* Harvests up to 5 feet deep

* Includes trailer/conveyor system for disposing harvested plants.

The trailer conveyor (pictures below) unloads the weeds from the harvester for easy removal from your site.

ADVANTAGES TO HARVESTING

* Agricultural: Irrigation and irrigation canal increases when plants are mechanically harvested

* Controlled Effects: Harvesting can be easily regulated to preserve fish habitats, recreational access, and at the same time avoid any major upset in the ecological balance.

* Effects on Water: No foreign substances are added to the water.  Growing weeds increase the dissolved oxygen in the water.

* End Product Usage: Harvested blomass can be used to produce methane gas, soil supplements, and alcohol.  It is also an excellent fertilizer for gardeners, farmers, and landscapers.

* Esthetics: Appearance of a water body can be dramatically improved by removing aquatic plants that have grown to the surface.

* Property Values: A harvesting program on your water body can increase property values dramatically compared to a property on a weed-choked water body with no harvesting program and decreasing water quality.

* Impact on Ecosystem: Harvesting causes no adverse impact on the ecosystem and is environmentally safe.

* Long Term Plant Control: In many cases, weed growth in ensuing years has diminished by persistent harvesting.

* Nutrient Removal: Nutrient removal occurs when weeds are harvested, which helps to inhibit future weed growth.

* Permits: Harvesting permits, though seldom necessary, are simple and usually welcomed by regulatory agencies.

* Results: Harvesting results are positive, immediate, and readily observable.

* Water Usage: Water usage can be resumed immediately after a harvest and, in most cases, in can be continued during the harvest.  There is no waiting to use the water after a harvest.  Sport fishing, water recreation, and other water activities can be resumed immediately.  There are no lingering or residual effects from harvesting.

* Wildlife Conservation Tool: Harvesting can be selectively managed to maintain water fowl habitat and other wildlife conservation areas.
